Name: | Nagato Yuki |
---|
"...I, who landed in a soundless world, was snow..."

"For the three years since I was born, I have spent that entire time doing so...
"A humanoid interface for direct contact with organic living creatures, created by the Data Integration Thought Entity that supervises this galaxy: That would be me.
"Should a crisis approach, first, it will reach you...
"There have been none but me since the beginning. There may be an outbreak of inconsistency in the transmission of data, but please, listen. That is the reason why I am here...why you are here.
"Believe me."
Occupation: Member of the Data Integration Thought Entity/SOS Brigade
Age: 16
History: Nagato Yuki is a quiet high school freshman that is the only member of the SOS Brigade that willingly joined Haruhi's club and wasn't 'voluntarily arrested,' or forced into doing so, by Suzumiya Haruhi. She was the only member of the Literary Club, as the other members had all been seniors and had graduated; thus leaving Yuki as the sole member of said club. She lives alone in the same apartment complex as Asakura Ryoko.
Yuki is an artificial human, or humanoid interface, created by the Data Integration Thought Entity for the purposes of interacting with and observing events on Earth. Specifically, Yuki was created to observe Haruhi who can create huge quantities of data from nothing. Haruhi represents the potential for auto-evolution, an ability that the Integration Thought Entity doesn't have.
Abilities: As an artificial human, Yuki has numerous paranormal abilities that has been referred to by Kyon as "bogus magic." She is capable of manipulating the properties of the environment and any materials within it at any scale to her desire. Example: she once modified a baseball bat to hit nothing but home runs! She's also been known to nullify data links-removing other artificial interface connections from their bodies-making up cover stories-when Ryoko ceased to exist, she had it known within less than a day that Ryoko and her family-whom were non-existent, of course-had moved to Canada-and reconstructing a classroom down to the last detail, after everything in it was completely destroyed.
Yuki is capable of feats of superhuman strength, agility and stamina. Once, she was unfazed while being impaled by multiple metal strikes, and was able to effortlessly reconstruct her body afterwards. Her state also affords her an extreme level of intelligence. She can comprehend the rules and concepts of a game instantaeously, as well as create flawless strategies based on her observations, and was able to learn how to play a guitar mere moments after receiving one. However, she has been known to be fallible, since during the time she had reconstructed the aforementioned classroom she forgot to reconstruct her destroyed glasses; when it came to her glasses, she chose to leave them in the past since Kyon had mentioned to her that she was cuter without them and that he wasn't a 'glasses man.'
However, ever since appearing in the Digital World, Yuki has noticed that her abilities now have limits placed upon them. She can still heal any injuries that she receives while in battle as long as they aren't too severe. If her injuries get to that point she must allow her body to heal naturally as a human's would. She can still construct or reconstruct rooms down to the last detail, but as a backlash, or consequence of using that power, it would be as if she had been dealt a severe injury and she would have to allow herself time to heal. Her abilities to create barriers, superhuman strength, agility and stamina still appear to be intact without any consequences.
Personality: Yuki has a very stoic and introverted personality, preferring simple body language rather than speaking out loud. When Yuki's prompted to speak, she'll do so but in a very concise manner-speaking in a monotone and displaying a dispassionate expression. She thinks very rationally, and finds it difficult to communicate with humans due to her intelligence and lack of empathy.
Yuki enjoys reading and is usually seen reading a book in the majority of her appearances, normally of the science fiction or mystery genres. As the series continues onward, Yuki displays an enjoyment of computer games as well as a sense of humor; her unchanging facial expressions unfortunately make it near-impossible to figure out whether she is joking or not. Despite Yuki's reserved nature, she is reliable and trustworthy, which results in Kyon trusting her more than any other member of the SOS Brigade.
Though seemingly cold and devoid of emotions at first glance, Yuki has subtly shown a genuinely warm care and concern for her fellow SOS Brigade members, Kyon in particular. Example: when Kyon had fallen asleep at the Brigade's main computer after having gone to retrieve a heater-but ended up coming back with two items as opposed to one-Yuki had placed her cardigan over him so he wouldn't get too cold.
Yuki is described by Haruhi herself as the SOS Brigade's 'indispensable, silent character.' Similar to fellow Brigade member Izumi Koizumi, Yuki is obedient when orders are given; however her loyalties lie more with Kyon than with Haruhi. The members rely on Yuki whenever her abilities are needed most, like when the Brigade were on a losing streak in the baseball tournament, the contest against the Computer Society and against the Cave Cricket-which only involved Kyon, Yuki, Koizumi and Asahina Mikuru. They hadn't directly involved Haruhi in this endeavor even though it did involve a case to find the Computer Club president.
Other than that role, Yuki is protective of Kyon, evidenced when she purposefully used her own body to shield him from an attack by Asakura Ryoko.
(In the novel The Vanishment of Haruhi Suzumiya, Yuki was discovered to have been responsible for the world that Kyon had once found himself in where Ryoko, Mikuru, Yuki, Koizumi and Haruhi were all normal beings-which meant Koizumi's Agency, Mikuru's time traveling organization and Yuki's Integrated Thought Entity didn't exist-and the latter two had never gone to North High, meaning no formation of the SOS Brigade, due to internal errors revealed to be something Yuki wasn't supposed to have: emotions.
Despite the fact that she was more than likely to be deleted for such an act, Kyon came to Yuki's defense. Kyon had Yuki remind the Entity that if she were to be deleted, Kyon would make Haruhi alter reality to the point where Yuki existed but the Entity didn't, knowing that the Entity can't lay a finger on Kyon lest they ruin reality which would make their mission a failure.
In The Vanishing/Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan, this series is a continuation of that same world where Haruhi didn't initially create the SOS Brigade, and Yuki's a regular, shy girl in the Literature Club with her best friend Ryoko Asakura. She grows to harbor feelings for Kyon as the series progresses and is 'motivated' by Ryoko via various techniques, competitions, etc. to confess her feelings toward him.)
Lyrics at top and before the bio itself are from The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi Character Song Vol.2 CD; song is called Yuki, Muon, Madobe Nite. or Snow, Silence, by the Windowsill., which is sung by Chihara Minori a.k.a. the voice of Nagato Yuki!
